My boot won't open!?
Discussion
Hi, I own a 98 Chimaera 450, which today has decided it won't open the boot! The ignition is on, I can hear the solenoid engage (or at least some sort of noise when I press the switch), but the boot won't pop up. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you get round it? There doesn't seem to be any other way to open it...
The solenoid operates a cable which pulls on the lock mechanism, so this could have broken or something.
There is a method to manually open the boot, but obviously this is not discussed openly in the forum. Unfortunately as this is your first post, I doubt anybody is likely to tell you either.

Yep, you're right, that seems to have been the problem, has taken me a couple of hours to fix it, but it's done now and at no cost. Managed to open the boot manually, which I assume is the top secret way you mentioned, then peeled the trim and carpet back and removed the solenoid - I think I'll put the carpet back with velcro rather than glue just in case it happens again. The cable is attached to the solenoid at a 90 degree angle - a great piece of design - and had sheared off at that point.
If anybody else experiences this please feel free to contact me, it's fairly straightforward to explain how to get in and what to do to fix it. It's a fiddly job and you'll more than likely need a new cable grip as the solenoid end is nearly impossible to clear properly as it's glued in. Luckily you can use the grip that is at the lock end, insert it into the holder on the solenoid and replace with something similar at the lock lever, but like i say, if you have the same problem let me know and I'll tell you the full story...
