Roar O8 What's happening this year!
Discussion
All you need to know about Roar 08
Roar 08 is this year's Annual Chimaera Festival and is taking place on 28th and 29th of June at the Moorside Grange Hotel and Health Spa, situated on the edge of the Peak District, and it looks to be the biggest Chimaera gathering yet!
TVR owners and enthusiasts are all invited to join in and soak up the atmosphere. Do come along to meet and chat to TVR owners and exhibitors, and most of all the opportunity to view some great looking cars.
As part of my planning of this year's event, I have tried to appeal to everyone and hope that this will be an event to remember for all.
The agenda is as follows: -
Friday 27th June 2008
Roar 08 weekend kicks off on Friday night with a Mexican style dinner. The cost is only £10.00 per person and pre-bookings are essential which can be done so direct with the hotel. Tequila shots will be available to purchase from the bar…at your own peril!
Saturday 28th June 2008
The main event commences at 10.00am as the drivers arrive and registration begins.
Exhibitors
Exhibitors will be on hand, over the two days, to help you get into the spirit as well as to provide you with the expert advice from anything regarding headlight conversions to engine modifications.
Ride Drive has generously agreed to have a team of advanced road driving specialists on hand to deliver driving assessments over the weekend which will enable you to understand how you can get a better response from your car. This service will be provided completely free of charge, will last about 20-minutes each and will be administered on a pre-booking basis only via Angus MacDougall (details below)
Crazy Horses Racing will be at Roar 08 over the two days to provide Diagnostic Tests on Dyno Rolling Road. These experts will be able to provide you with an accurate and informative indication of your car's engine performance as well as professional advice. A test will need to be pre-booked via Angus MacDougall and will be charged at the reduced rate, for this event only, of £35.00 per session.
We have had an excellent response from organisations regarding Roar 08 and are delighted to confirm the attendance from the following exhibitors:
Ride Drive
Crazy Horses Racing
TVR Power
SC Power
Surface & Design
Sportmotive
SP Automotive
ACT Products
KRJ Trimmers
But that's not all! We are still awaiting confirmation from additional companies that wish to take part in this year's event.
In an effort to keep you informed who else will be present at this event, we will post a final outline of exhibitors nearer the time.
Additional activities on Saturday
We will be hosting a 'treasure hunt' which commences at 11:00 am to continue until 2.00 pm and will be a great opportunity to take a run with the TVRS as well as to take advantage of the views of the beautiful countryside. The objective of the treasure hunt is to seek and follow all the clues and find the treasure. The one who completes the task in the quickest time will win the prize, which will be awarded at the barn dance in the evening.
The Moorside Grange Hotel has made available exclusive bookings at its health and beauty spa for Roar visitors only, with exceptionally reduced rates. Therefore, if you or your partner would like some chill time, then do take advantage of this generous offer. Due to a high demand, pre-bookings are strongly advised as the offer will close three weeks before the event. Please contact the Hotel direct to book.
On Saturday lunch time, the Hotel will be providing pack lunches for £4.95 per person which can be purchased on the day from the bar.
Saturday Evening Barn Dance
The Barn Dance commences at 7:00 pm and will be charged at a mere £10:00 per person. This will include the evening meal and entertainment with barn dancing. Again, due to a high level of interest shown already, you are strongly advised to pre-book as early as possible with the Hotel direct.
Sunday 29th June
The Sunday event commences again at 10:00 am and will close at 3.30 pm.
The main procession will start at around mid-day and it is hoped that this will be the largest convoy of Chimaeras to date.
The Hotel will be providing a BBQ lunch more details closer the time.
Hotel accommodation for Roar 08 weekend
We currently have a block booking for the hotel rooms at hugely discounted rates, however, these are only open to us until three weeks before the event. This is to ensure, should the hotel not get the volume of bookings from the TVR owners, then it will be able to utilise the rooms for outside interest.
Therefore, it would be to your advantage to book sooner than later. Refer to our booking code ROAR 08 when you make your reservation.
The costs for accommodation are as follows and include overnight accommodation and breakfast as well as complimentary use of their swimming pool and gym:
- Two people sharing a twin or double room: £25 per person per night
- Single occupancy: please contact Naomi Phillips
- Children (must be with accompanying adult):£10 per child per night
- Executive room upgrades: an additional £20 per person per night.
Booking availability is based on a first come first served basis.
Please book by calling 01663 764151 and quote 'Roar 08'.
If you require assistance with your booking or for any enquiries, please contact the Events Manager, Naomi Phillips at the Hotel.

Doubt I'll be there but I think you need to get together with whoever is organising the treasure hunt! In that posting it states: there are absolutely no concessions made to the speed and time you take to complete it. You can take all day, you can walk the route, cycle it or take a helicopter if you want we don’t care.
Yet above in this post you say: The objective of the treasure hunt is to seek and follow all the clues and find the treasure. The one who completes the task in the quickest time will win the prize...
So which is it - they'll need to know

Hi folks, I've received a few queries with regards the ROAR Treasure Hunt. So I thought it be best to clarify things. Firstly there is a mis-match between what is commonly referred to as a Treasure Hunt and what is technically defined as a treasure hunt.
Having spoken to the Competitions, Clubs & Events Manager, Simon Fowler, at the MSA; the technical term for what we are organising is a "Navigational Scatter Event", these are automatically authorised under Regulation 5(b) of the Motor Vehicles (Competitions and Trials) Regulations.
Details of this can be found http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/comps... and here http://www.msauk.org/uploadedfiles/msa_forms/comps... I will make hard copies of these documents available on the day.
Basically the "car" part is incidental to getting to a number of points to answer clues, and there is no competition as such relating to the car, no timing, no odometer readings etc, hence you don't need special insurance to take part (SD&P covers it), we don't need permits and the like and at the end of the day we can all have a great time!
Regards
Iain

Just wanted to say thanks to all involved in organising the event. Was good to meet/talk to so many other owners and suppliers, to get my car checked out on the rolling road and to have my driving scruitinised by an ex-copper with no desire to award me points or relieve me of my license (Ride Drive).
The run was a good laugh, and very wet - but I still have no idea if we went the right way or not. Think we may have taken the special route!
Cheers.

What a wonderful event this was, even though I am biased (wife of Goose).
I certainly met some lovely people who truly got into the spirit of Roar. Congratulations to those that won the best Chim, best work horse and best modified chim.
Also thanks to all of you who attended the Saturday evening do, the charity auction was hilarious and at the same time we were truly honoured by your generosity everyone. I spoke to Francis House chidrens hospice today and they were delighted although our £1207 was a drop in the ocean. They have to raise £100K per month to pay for special care nurses' salaries. Amazing!! If anyone else wants to donate please contact them direct http://www.francishouse.org.uk/
Thanks also to those that came from Devon, Scotland, Brighton, Somerset, even Costa del Sol as well as from the local areas...and who was it on this forum that mentioned that we would not get any southerners!!!! You'll be eating your hat now!!!
I speak for both Angus and myself to say thanks to all the exhibitors who also made this a great event including poor old Gary from Crazy Horses Racing who was truly knackered when I spoke to him this morning. Congrats to Stuart MacPherson who had the best performance on the Rolling Road. Also thanks to the Ride Drive team (yes all ex-coppers and not a ticket or conviscated licence in sight!!) who gave 42 people an experience to remember ....so to speak.
Also I do believe the staff at the hotel did an amazing job too.
Most of all to all the lovely TVR owners who came along and made the event what it was, rain or shine, without you this would not have been the event it was, you made the effort to come along and be part of this and we feel we have made some truly amazing friends who have given us some wonderful memories of the day, which, considering there have been a couple of posts on this forum putting this event down, putting Angus down and poo pooing the event in some way or another which is so un-spirited as well as childish (if you need to moan either keep quiet or roll up your sleeves and help out!!!!).
I know there were many who had said they would to have attended but sadly could not...never mind we will see you next year for an even more exciting event. Next year it will be around the Oxford area.
We now have about 10 volunteers to help for next year, thanks folks.
With many best wishes
