Squeaky wipers

My wipers squeak quite loudly in both directions unless it's very wet and leave a nice smear across the middle if it's not properly raining. Is that normal or should I change something?

You've described whatever I find when I need new blades on whatever I'm driving. The blades are knackered.

I don't think many owners will experience what you have found (unless they flick the wipers on when spraying with a garden hose!).
