radar detector in a chim?
Discussion
Mine is suckered to the windscreen on the RHS, external wire into ciggy lighter. Much cleaner install than form a central ciggy lighter with the wire leading up the dash. I'm sure an 'internal dash' wired version would be neater though. Also easier to remove all traced for when driving in Europe (where they get very upset about you watching them watching you).
BTW. Has anyone fitted a jammer to an early model Chimaera with the metal grille? Did you cut a hole in the grille? (they're easier to fit on a later model I'm sure).

thanks for that. Presumably you have to unplug it each time you get out though? or can you swing your leg out without having to?
I am tempted to have a second cigarette lighter wired in as I did with the S. That was a neat little job that put another one in the rhs of the footwell neatly out of the way and then wire around the side of the dash and up over the top... local auto electrician only charged me about £20 to do it IIRC.

With reference to the detectors, are they useful??do they give you enough warning??, have they saved anyone??
I am tempted to get one, and have looked into them, but which is best?, is the cheaper end of the market the acceptable, I'm sure you get what you pay for but??
Of course I am an

I just bought a Road Angel with the Laser detector golfball thingy!! Have to say, even out of the box it does a stirling job without an update ( got to wait 24 hrs ) very impressive. 400 quid might seem a bit steep to some, but its a one time buy......and if it saves ya license so you can enjoy the weather like today top down, then what price is that??
Just do it I say.

Oh yeah...its just plugged in the cigar lighter.!!

sorry mate - only put it in here because the question related solely to chimaeras in terms of whether people hard-wire them in due to the positioning of the lighter socket.
In response to the general queries, i have a road angel and its very good. Seems to pick up all fixed cameras. As has already been said, the laser attachment is hopeful in that if you have been targeted, it will go off but too late as they will have a speed reading. If you are extremely fortunate it can pick up scatter off vehicles in front being targeted by the laser, but the chances of that happening are slim. To beat laser, you need to buy a diffuser and that plugs straight into the Road Angel. Personally I am not happy with the legalities of the diffuser so have steered clear so far. Of course, I may revisit this issue if points start arriving.
BTW - I only use the road angel to obtain an accurate GPS reading to ensure i do not speed and to let me know where "accident blackspots" are. It never gets used to "spot scameras" because i never speed anyway....

I can leave it plugged in or leave the coiled lead hanging with the end sitting in the door pocket - doesn't get in the way and I'm 6ft 4ins and a bit. I plug the trickle charger into the ciggy socket when it's at home so that socket gets quite a bit of use.
Obviously, if I'm parking in town/a remote location I remote the radar detector and put it in the boot with the stereo front. However, the radar detector certainly stays in position more than the stereo - who needs the stereo most of the time anyway!
