1. Assume bonnet needs to come off
2. Exhaust headers
3. Chassis strengthner bar thing (that the swirl pot is on)
4. How much of the serpentine arrangement needs to come off?

Can somebody who has done this describe what needs to come off the get access to the cam.

Cheers m'dears

I have got an answer to this I think

1. Front bit of exhaust (not manifolds)
2. Chassis bar
3. Serpentine

Never done one, but thinking about it, surely you also have take off the inlet manifold, rocker covers, as you will probably change the followers at the same time.

sorry badly phrased question - i meant just to get access to the cam from the front - yep obviously the plenum, rockers etc etc will need to come off.

Yes Ant.

Yes, just Y'piece not manifolds.

Its the front (oil/ timing) cover that needs to come off - only the serp bits that get in the way of that need to be removed. The water pump can remain attached to the cover IIRC. So drain the oil & coolant first, and don't forget to get the correct gasket for the cover (and shim kit for the pesky rockers)

assume you mean rocker cover gasket? would i need a new one or could I just reuse the existing one (new at last service).

No the front cover gasket.. It should keep the oil ways & water ways apart.

Some have rubber rocker gaskets which are re-uaseable, if you don't have these they are well worth upgrading IMHO.

Is this the same for a pre serp, or is there more or less to it?

You just ease the alt, rather than spannering the tensioner to get the belt off, but you have to remove the swirl tank in the pre-serp.. Pretty obvious as its attached on top of the timing cover hehe

Rest is pretty much the same, but IIRC you must be careful to get the correct gasket for the timing cover.
