Hello all.

Ive 'searched' the subject on the forums, and whilst ive got a good idea of going on id like some specific advise to my problem.

The temperature gauge on my 2000 4.0l will show the temperature as stone cold when im driving at anything above 55mph, and only 55-60'c if driven at slower speeds. I dont suffer from any rough running problems, although my fuel consumption isnt great (heavy right foot me thinks!)

I know the sensor is subject to 'wind chill effects' but ive not seen the temp drop so much on any other Chim. At standstill the engine temp will slowly warm, and if left looks to be about right. The fans kick in at an indicated 85-90 as expected too so i dont think the gauge is faulty.

Firstly, id like to know if anyone else has had anything like this, secondly is this having an effect to my engine, and lastly is there a simple soution / fix / check to prove everything is ok or to get rid of this issue.

With thanks for your replies in advance

James

Had very similar issues and turned out to be thermostat stuck open. Quick fix and now warms up to 60 - 65 after about 3 miles and sits at 70 - 75 while moving. Fans cut in same as yours when stationary.
