As a new member and having spent yesterday evening browsing this forum I realise that the minor problems I am having, are nothing compared to what many of you have been going through over the months / years. Congratulations on running such an informative and friendly forum and hopefully my joining I will be able to contribute and pass on my “experiences” with my Chimaera.

As I said, I’ve a couple of minor but annoying problems:
- My washer/wiper motor has packed in. Now hopefully this may be as simple as a fuse that has blow, but looking through the manual there is nothing documented for a washer/wiper fuse. Is there a fuse ?.......Where is it…?

Secondly:
- Over the winter a large scratch has appeared down the site of the door (about the same height as a bike handlebar, but no one in the house is admitting it !!!!). The local paint shop says they need the actual paint code, rather than “Cherry Pearl” that is documented in the owners manual. Is there anywhere I can get a paint code from, as I believe this colour is one of the most common TVR colours ?

Thanks for your help
Tim

Hi Tim,

Don't know how well you know the cars but the fuse box is located at the end of the passenger footwell. There will be a carpeted panel right at the end that just pulls out exposing the battery and ecu. The ecu is either squeezed beside the battery or on top (if on top make sure there is no way the battery can short out on the metal casing of the ecu. Pull the ecu out of the way and behind and above the battery you should see the fuse box.

Steve Heath's book shows a few fuse box designs as they may vary from car to car. All seem to show the Wiper fuse (20A fuse) as the 7th fuse in from the RHS of the log row of fuses along the bottom of the box.

ETA - if it isn't the fuse it could be the motor of course, but sometimes the wash/wipe switch on the steering column can fail.

As for the colour code...

If you click on the link posted by davetherave1970 you'll see examples of the TVR paint codes. e.g. mine is P422~PM76B . You should find the code specific to your paint on the VIN plate in the engine bay. I took mine to Halfords and they made a spray can up for me. IIRC the P422 means that the paint is an ICI paint. I assume that a different code at the beginning means it is a special paint ?!?!? I'm not sure about that.

Anyway.... HTH

Thanks G.....I've located the fuse box thanks. The wipers work without any problem, it's the washer motor that doesn't work (which is why I was asking if there was another fuse just for the washer motor). It looks like I now need to check the switch.
Thanks for the advice to look at the VIN plate - I'll see if there's anything that looks like a paint id.

Ah, I see....

I thought you meant the wiper motor itself. I might be wrong (not near my car to check) but I think the washer motor is actually attached to the washer bottle. Might be worth checking the electrical contacts there if you haven't already done so. If you have a circuit tester you could see if there is a current to the motor. If there is it's likely the motor itself, if not the break will be else where e.g. the switch or other contact ? I don't think there is a separate fuse for the wash motor ?!!?

G, mine too, 95 N reg.

Tim, washer pump is off a Ford. Hopefully the part No. will be visible on the faulty one.

I have 95 M reg, my wiper motor failed itself, it was a cheap replacemt and easy job to change just behind the grill. You can get one from any of the suppliers for reasonable money.

Test the output at the motor connector with a meter whilst someone activates the wash.
