dashboard veneers
Discussion
Hi there
Plenty of companies out there on t'Internet doing all sorts of veneers mail order. I tried epoxy resin first off but found that it actually seeped through to the front side of the veneer. Finished up using contact adhesive. Decent piece of veneer will set you back about thirty quid or so. Make sure you have plenty for a couple of goes at the lower dash as you will probably f**k it up a couple of times before getting the hang of it.
When you get the veneer it will be dry and wavy. Needs to be wetted with something like 10% glycerine in water in a spray, then pressed until it dries flat. It is very delicate and breaks easy.I used scalpels to cut out the instrument holes etc.
I used spray on polyester varnish, doing a lightcoat, then letting it dry then another then when it starts to build a rub down with VERY fine sandpaper between coats. The more coats the merrier. Time consuming but worth it.
