I've asked a franchised dealer "where's my fresh air inlet?" Answer was 'dunno'
My car is a late '96 Chim.
My problem is: it doesn't matter whether I position the heater/direction controls to direct air to the footwells or to demist up the windscreen, I get an almighty blast of air up the windscreen (even without the fan switched on)
Now I never need demist because the car never mists up as I'm only ever out in the fine and dry summer months. However, this blast of air up the windscreen completely dries my eyes out and makes it very uncomfortable for hours afterwards - even after a short trip.

My answer: I want to block off the point where external air is being forced into the ventilation system. I've done this on my daily box and was a good fix.
My question: Where can I find the point where the external air is first forced into the ventilation system?
Thanks, David.

If you have a copy of the bible have a look at pages 290-291

If it's same as the Cerebra which I think it is (long time since I had a Chimaera) it comes in through the wings via the little hole near the indicators and around the gaps in the headlamps etc, on my Cerebra I had the problem of too much cold air coming in, I put a plastic bag up in the wing above the wheel area, then filled it with expanding foam, so long as you put a plastic bag in first you can easily remove it all at a latter date, I have had no trouble with this for around 5 years now, it's cheap too.

Hi Madmax and Kevin,
Thanks for that. I don't have the bible although I've bid on several copies on ebay but always been outbid!
I have the pre face lift front - one with the indicator light surrounded by black metal sheet with little holes in... so this is where the air is forced in? And is it forced in on both sides? I've looked under the front wheel arch but can't see any means of access. Do I have to take out the headlights to get at where I need to be or is there anywhere else nearer the front scuttle/bulkhead?
I like the idea of filling a bag full of foam - presumably I have to do this in both front wings?
Regards, David.

The front is all open, so the air coming in the grill and the bits round the flashers pressurizes the whole mouth. This as well as the the rad serves the inner wings.

It is nicer to put some filters in the wings to keep the grit out of your eyes wink

I would make sure that the footwell vents are not closed, as that will force all air up the windscreen vents. The diverter in the mixer box is not very good - but that is hell of a job to get out. Many of the early cars have a flap to the left of the fusebox/battery which can be opened manually and is then like a recirc flap.

On the early cars I think you could only get to the lights and wing area via the front opening, on the later cars there was a pannel on the inner wheel arch, you have to take the wheel off to get to this pannel, you may have one of these but it is sealed with silicon so you may not notice it, there are a few screws also holding it on.

Dave and Kevin,
This afternoon I did remove the passenger side front wheel (before I read your replies) and had a good look with a torch on the underside of the wheel arch but there wasn't any evidence of any access panel behind the headlight.

So basically all the air hitting the front end is forced into the wings. Tomorrow I'll have another look with the bonnet open and also down by the battery/fuses area for any kind of recirculating flap.
Thanks again for the advice.
David.
