Drained the oil, removed sump to replace gasket as was leaking badly.

Bought parts including new oil filter from Racing Green.

Oil filter is different from one on the car. It is shorter.

On car is Unipart GFE 487 which is approx 100mm long, new one is Unipart GFE 422 which is only 85 mm long (to start of end curve)

Car is a 97 Chim 500.

What is the difference in the filters ? Can I use the new (shorter)one ?

Any advice please, as I want to carry on.

I am also worried about the oil pump needing priming now as the the pick up pipe has now drained down.

No its just a dreaded answer phone.

My own fault, I should have checked on Friday.

Anyone able to have a quick peek under a 500 and see what they have fitted, although unless its the Unipart no. I suppose it wont confirm much to me.

The filter will be OK, some are just shorter wink The oil priming is only a prob on pre-serp engines, and even then drain back doesn't always occur. Just squirt some oil up the middle of the pump before you put the filter on, to be sure. Just start it & if pressure doesn't come up up 20s after firing stop it...

The old JFDI principles hehe
