Selling your Chim ?.
Discussion
My search isn't going too well, all the cheaper cars are miles away. One localish car I rang up about was being advertised by someone that didn't want to sell it after all, so if you are thinking about selling but haven't advertised yet, and you aren't too far away from Cambridgeshire let me know.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Be prepared to cast your net wide, especially with the cars at the lower end of the market.
I looked at 10 before buying mine, and only one of those was within 100 miles of my house.
Were the first 9 really that bad ?. I'm wondering if I have to spend big (£10k+) or wait for a basket case and pull it to bits and start again.I looked at 10 before buying mine, and only one of those was within 100 miles of my house.
When I originally started looking for one I saw a few that simply weren't as described (immaculate, VGC, etc, etc), travelled around a bit too. Got a bit disillusioned and gave up for a few months. All of a sudden one popped up in the next county and I went over to see it. You do have to travel to see whats on offer but also keep your eye on ALL of the adverts in different publications before you find one that you like.
This one for sale on autotrader looks quite nice (unusual colour as well) - http://tinyurl.com/67q62h

Both of those cars look nice but to be honest they seem like dealer or 500 money to me, I did an apprenticeship as a fabricator welder and worked for a race car company so I could repair a chassis but I don't fancy taking a body off unless the car was really cheap.
Wouldn't of thought 10.5 GBP wasn't bad for a 97 carMark

You may be right, I've only recently decided I fancy one so I'm not sure what I will have to pay, but bearing in mind the age of these cars and the build quality of them I'd rather buy one that's had plenty of maintenance or price the car to allow for some.
I mean no offence when I say this but 9 times out of ten a cheap car is cheap for a reason. Too many people see the cheap ones and then think that’s the value of all chims for that age and mileage, taking no account of the condition. A 10k 97 that has been fastidiously maintained and needs no work is to me better value than a 7k 97 that has patchy history and needs unknown monies spent to get it to a decent standard. There are bargains to be had, maybe through desperate sellers or just conincedence but IMHO it does not mean that all decent Chims are then worth that price. At the end of the day if a car is overpriced it just won't sell and you can normally barter a little on price anyway.
Nout wrong with build quality either, had mine over 3 years and over 25000 miles and not had any bits fall off yet!

Likewise no offence about the build quality but it seems the chassis rust proofing is an issue, not all of the chassis but parts of it. I take the point about cheap cars and maybe I will spend £10k but not until I've looked at some cheaper ones first. £3 or £4k spare to spend on a car may be better than stamps in a service book ultimately.
Bargains are to be had.
I paid a LOT less than £10k for my 98 450.
Took a little risk buying off Ebay.
The mileage was a little high at 92k but had a full service history at Fernhurst.
Ive had the car 7 months, done 3500 miles and only suffered running out of petrol 1 mile from the services, a leaking petrol hose and a snapped bonnet cable.
The car passed its MoT on Friday with flying colours.
Have faith and the right car will turn up soon.

I drove 1800 miles looking for my first Chimaera, saw 14 of them, then went back and bought the first one I'd been to see. But alas that didn't last. My second Chimaera was a 500 mile round trip which I did on the spur of a moment, glad I did now, it's fantastic and was substantially less than 10k.
There will be a car for you in your budget, widen your search and remember, look at a few, compare them all, and buy on condition. The quality of the cars I've seen varies substantially.
