What battery do I need?
Discussion
Whilst trying to leave the TVRCC monthly meet today my battery without any warning has died. Would not even crank the engine over. Push started fine though. Always on an Accumate in the garage. I know I'll need at least a 630CCA rating battery. Any recommendations of makes/suppliers? I have a 450 Chim 1999.

Halfords have a look up table which actually lists TVR's! Just got mine from there. Only a 550A but seems to do the job nicely.
Don't get too hung about about the rating, as there are different ways to measure the rating, and unless you know the details of the different ratings and how they compare. 072 is the correct one.If you buy one from halfords get them to test it in the shop. I replaced mine, which as you know is a bit of a pain, and it was flat. Took it back and they tested it and not a bit of power in it. Probably a one off but it onyl takes a minute to test before you walk out the door with what was effectivley an expensive brick

Just beware, halfords sell 2 types of 072, I also have the CCA 550 but they first tried to sell me an 072 with something like 350 CCA .....Ribol said:

Vauxhall dealer GO battery range 072 are good and price too
an 069 will work fine, although i use a Bosch 075 off a Pug/citroen diesel no problem and spins over like a top(because it was very cheap, mates rates).Edited by That Daddy on Tuesday 15th April 13:28
I maeasured the battery box on the Griff and went down to a battery shop and got one that fitted with the highest cranking capacity - £55 with a 2 year guarantee. Its easy to change once you know how, although a tad daunting at first. Just make sure you copperslip the bolts that hold the battery box and put some silicon on the underside of the washers to stop any water ingress.
Like you no warning of an issue, just dies.

Another tip - draw a line on the floor along the front edge of the battery box to save you guessing if the holes will line up when you go to put it back

Thanks for all your advice. Picked up a Varta Blue top E24 630CCA from my local battery specialist today, +ve on left side. Came with a 4yr guarantee for £85. Fired up straight away once connected. Took the chance not to mark box position and on refitting holes lined up when box was pushed as far as it could go. Used a mirror to make the job easier.
