In the process of changing the indicator lenses which is turning into a much bigger pig of a job it has any right to be....
Doing the drivers side this big black bucket......

....is wobbling about in the front cavity, it looks like a big rusty jubilee clip has given way, but the thing can't exactly go anywhere.

So what is it?

and why doesn't my driverside indicator work anymore......I think I need a new back bit....banghead

If it’s the big black thing, it's the Carbon Canister. Part of the emission control system. The fuel tank vents through it. There should be a rubber pipe leading back to the fuel tank and another short one that just ends after a foot or so, plus some wiring to control it. Apparently it is controlled via the ECU and fumes from the tank are vented out through the carbon filter.

The jubilee clip had a bolt welded to it which secured it through the OSF wheel arch but has probably rusted away. Just re-fix with a new clip and bolt.

That was going to be my guess but couldn't find a picture of it in 'The Bible'.
Think I'll look at fixing it back seeing as now the cars going nowhere until I find a new indicator back bit, as some wires in that appear to have come adrift, banghead

I've just made these for my car! I'm bloody over the moon with them biggrin

37 high bright orange LED's mounted through carbon fibre and potted in clear resin. Will be fitting on car in a week or so. Thinking of making a rear light cluster this way too!
