Having taken off the passenger side front wheel to change my headlights, I've noticed a different access panel towards the back of the wheel arch. It's rectangular and held in with four hex bolts and looks too high for the back of the fuse box. Is this a "my car" special or do all Chimaeras have this? Where does it go?

I also have a 97 540 and don't have this panel. I do however have a panel held in with rivets underneath the AFM (before I took it out) which leads to the top of the fusebox. Do you have this one? If not then perhaps the access panel was moved at some stage...

I believe that show cars sonetimes has a button put there to open the cars so that visitors couldn't get in without asking, maybe that was there and it's been removed Or maybe someone's had some wiring problems and they've created the hatch to gain access to the wires buried in the wings?

I'm certain that I don't have a show car. Looks like I'm gonna be opening it up this weekend just to have a look...!

You mean this one?

Have the same thing on the same car ('99 450), but mine looks riveted in. My bet is access to the heater blower box. Or if your car has aircon it might be to do with that?

It looks nicely sealed anyway, so I'll be leaving it where it is!

Yes! that's the one. If it's aircon related then maybe mine *was* rivetted in but I had to have my aircon thoroughly overhauled last year. I'm probably gonna take it apart anyways to reseal it.
