think the purge valve you are referring to is a resivoir located behind and below the offside headlight...?
Its detailed in the bible - i have seen mine but not had any problems with it so not investigated it.
Think they are a sort of breather for the suel injection system and can become clogged.

(My dim and distant memory is telling me that the purge valve is part of the carbon canister)
