Getting an ignition key cut
Discussion
I've been trying to get a new, spare ignition key cut for my 96 Chimaera, without much luck. I know the ignition is from the Vauxhall parts bin, so some high street key cutters should have the equipment to copy mine. However, none of the copies I've had made will fit - the general advice is that because the original key is quite worn it's not easy to make a copy.
Does anyone have recommendations for anyone able to cut replacement car keys?

If you know the key number, you can order a new key from a Vauxhall dealer. You should find the key number noted in the original TVR owners handbook, if you still have it. That is how I obtained a 2nd key for mine. I never tried to have a copy cut off the old one, so can't offer you any advice on that.
I have just got 2 keys cut for my 1998 Chim, went to Timpsons in canterbury, but they have branches everywhere, got 2 done for 15 quid, they have a money back guarantee if the keys do not work, when I tried them in the car only 1 worked, but on inspection it was clear what was wrong, 2 mins with a file and it was sorted. i could have taken it back, but it was far quicker to sort it myself..

wot he said. The numbner on the key is no use, it has to be the one in the handbook, and they will have to send off for it.
