How to replace handbrake cable?

I'm just about to replace the handbrake cable, and have a couple of questions:-

1. Does the top of the tunnel have to come off (i.e. the bit around the handbrake lever)?

2. Does the exhaust need to be removed?

Any other advice/tips would be appreciated.
