ECU fitment - A CAUTIONARY TALE!!!!!!

Those kind folk helping me trace a killer short circuit from the main relay will already know that I located and fixed the damaged wiring which had chafed against a cylinder head bolt.

I sent the ECU off to be checked by the nice ECU Doctor (Google for him - he's great! ) and it came back Saturday morning.

Could I get the car to start - nope.

I then spent 2 hours today rechecking continuity along the live feed to the injectors and the cables running back to the ECU. No faults found.

I then asked myself if I could possibly have fitted the ECU connector the wrong way into the ecu itself. BINGO. Car started first time and runs like a dream.

The "DOH!" I emitted echoed around the fields and valleys around my home and I spent an hour cursing myself for being so effing stupid.

Two things then occurred to me: the first was that I was lucky that the Land Rover electronics were robust enough to cope with being connected up incorrectly. The second was that it was worth posting this little tale in case anybody else makes the same mistake. The connector goes into the ECU counter-intuitively with the cable entrance hanging over the side of the box, and unlike modern electronics the plug fitted can be connected both ways.
