My 94 Chim 400 seems to be a bit of a fair weather car. When it has been raining a lot (which invariably it does in Glasgow) the car is not smooth as I accelerate. It stutters through all the gears even when it gets upto temperature.

If I leave it after it warms for around 20mins and then start it then it runs smoothly like it should.

I am wondering whether water is getting in to the electrics and is drying out with the heat created by the engine?

Has anyone else had similar issues and knows how to resolve it?

One of my pals who is a lotus owner suggested that I place a car mat over the distributor when I am not using it. I would rather get to the bottom of the issue however.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Aidan

Never use a mat there will be one day you forget.
Try damp start on the leads and dizzy but as said use it as much as possible.

Hi Aidan

Sounds like it could be damp electrics
You could try looking under the bonnet when damp and dark to see if you have any tracking etc

New leads and a dizzy would probably cure it
