Does anyone know if it is possible to fit aircon to a 93 chimaera and how much it would cost?

If possible it would be about 3 grand but it assumes that the car has the latest air con compatible heating/ventilation system. A 93 car is not compatible.

Someone was advertising to do it for £1500 + Vat, but again it had to be the later type heater.

No spent some time looking at the incar video and data logs before logging on.

It was slower 96.89. I was nearly 2 seconds up going through No Name in 5th but had a huge grunch from the rear transmission going through St Mary's where the left rear spun up to 137 and then stopped while the right rear was 90+. Initial thought was UJs (Tiny bit a play but not much) but looking at the data log and video I am not so sure. I think the left rear lifted under power and the diff objected to the difference in wheel speed. Had similar funnies going through Lavent where I couldn't get the power down for nearly 3 seconds which screwed up the time. Not sure if there is any permanent damage to the diff. Checked it yesterday and it seems OK. Just another bit to add to winter rebuild program.

Have air con and the book all I need now is the T shirt, perhaps a bit strong but the reply had nothing to do with the question, poor guy just wanted some info and not to be hit with the saga of 'my great 520 intergalatic spaceship' again and again. Please someone build a 530!

Digression it may be, but its one stonking motor and to be honest I am always pleased to read something of the ongoing saga of Steve and the 520....

Oh, and I suppose a 530 would be possible but practical limits on the RV8 engine is 520 - so its pretty much the ultimate...

And on the question of Air-con retrofitted - there are a couple of companies that do this and can craft bespoke solutions for cars that dont have it available, even as an option. But its between £2K and £3K to have fitted and it will NEVER be as good as a factory fitted option (which if you have ever spoken to a TVR owner with it fitted you will know that it comes out tepid rather than cold anyway!).

Practicality says that in a normal engine bay it would be hard but possible, but the bay of a TVR Chimaera isnt as flexible as most cards - something to do with the rather complex belt arrangement. However, that said modern aircon compressors are much smaller than before and can be adapted to most installations.

Whats probably the best bet for money is to reduce the under-bonnet temperatures and get genuine cold air coming from the vents. This is possible and there are plenty of steps that you can do to aid cooling of the engine. Then some messing with the water heater and its efficiency will keep the water cool rather than warm. Finally get some supplementary blowers in the cabin to keep the air circulating well - either boost the power of the rather crap ones fitted, or get clever with retrofitting extras... either way much cheaper and doesnt mess with the engine - allowing you to keep some money in the pocket for the Mark Adams retune or uprated brakes / suspension....

Personally I will be looking at improving the cooling on mine in the coming months - getting that heater / blower more efficient to start with. Also got some stuff on order to keep the under-hood temperature down (exhaust wrap and high capacity fans - Modwise kit to come). Looked into getting aircon fitted to a Golf GTi Mk2 which is possible and not that hard, but kinda got scared off by the fitters due to the potential complexity and risks involved - it only really useful in big older cars with lots of engine bay space...

hi Paul
as thought on keeping the temp down I met a guy with a 93 car who had a later type bonnet on (larger side vents) who recons that it runs afair bit cooler, mabe the way to go
