Anybody got one hard wired in to a Chim ?

I am going to get one (any recommendations ? )but I am worried that if it is removable, I wont remember or be bothered to use it, but if hard wired in, it must not be obvious to theives.

Any thoughts anybody ?

I use TomTom which is actually a GPS system but it also advises you of speed cameras.

The mount for the TomTom is a sucker that goes on the screen and the unit is powered from the cigarette lighter (although I hard wired the lead into a 12v supply).

The Tom Tom is removable and simply clips into the mount when you want to use it - takes 2 or 3 seconds. Personally I leave the mount stuck to the windscreen but you CAN easily remove it if you want to.

The advantage of Tom Tom or any other GPS system that have "points of interest (POI)" features is that you get both speed camera warnings AND a GPS system. Other POI's are things like cashpoints or more imporatantly for TVR owners - Petrol Stations smile

True but they do not pick up mobile scamera vans, police cars, etc, only the registered locations and they are so bloody common that my tom tom constantly beeps away at these locations whether there is a laser gun present or not. If you only want a warning when the laser gun is being used then you need a detector and not a GPS unit that works purely on location.

Know what you mean about leaving it in the car in which case the windscreen suckers are good as suggested.

I fitted my old Road Angel Compact, picked up a switched 12V supply under the dash from an unused relay position. Tend to leave it stuck to the windscreen. Works quite well as it lights up bright red so is fairly eye catching as difficult to hear it over the V8!

In my everyday have a Pogo Alert which is much more advanced with a colour LCD screen etc, but the screen is not as eye catching so maybe might miss it alerting in the tiv unless the alarm volume was turned up loud.

I have hard wired in a Snooper S6 and the Radar detector which sits next to the number plate with double sided sticky. This system works very well for me.
I have modified the Snooper bracket to clip snugly under the "walnut" dash, just by the light switch on my Chim.
This way if I want to remove the main Snooper unit I just disconnect the wires (power, GPS aerial (works really well UNDER the dash top!) and Radar detector)and slide the unit off the clip! The only evidence left are the 3 wire tails which can tuck under the centre dash console if you are really paranoid.

I have TomTom and it works well. Warnings of hotspots where vans are likely to be I treat as a heads up to sharpen up my observsation. IIRC from other forums laser detectors are useless, by the time they've detected it you're already done. Arent detectors illegal now or did that change ?
