Quick question on brake pads.
Discussion
Hi all
I need new pads for the front of the Chim. I have done a bit of research and the main choices seem to be EBC Green Stuffs, Ferodo DS2000 or Mintex 1144. There are of course other pads but they seem more for track use.
To be honest I am more 'driving Miss Daisy' than 'girl racer' and will not be track daying the car this year so I don't think pads designed for track are appropriate.
I am reluctant to go Green Stuffs too because of the warming up issue so I guess my question is should it be the Ferodo or Mintex? If you wouldn't mind letting me know a good place to get them from as well I would be grateful!

I've never had any issues with my brakes and I have been known to drive a little sportingly on occasion.
I've always just popped one side off, pottered over to Sutton-Auto-Factors, with a used pad and gone 'match these mate'
Not done the fronts for a while although they are on the list of jobs before the next trackday but the rears were done at the end of last year, just after the last trackday, the pads they have are Mintex and they were £16 a set for the rears, the invoice I have for fronts from a few years back were about the same price.
And after your maintenance lessons it should be an hour’s job.

Sutton auto factors & Davmac, those 2 are bloody brilliant & really miss those 2. (I moved away)Most the places down south just give you jip. I paid £80 odd for the rears, did you get 1144's or just the bog standard type of mintex?

Must say that the Ferodo DS2500s I've got all round haven't shown any downsides during the running in period of the engine (not exactly Miss Daisy, but close enough - city traffic, motorway traffic and a bit of 'tourist' B-road driving). Smooth and feelsome application, firm pedal but not 'grabby', no funny noises (the DS3000s on the front of the Saab do squeal a bit on light application) - just all-round 'nice'. So based on that I wouldn't have any reservations to recommend the DS2000s. Remember, all else being equal you can't have too much braking power/fade resistance.
I find DS2000 have a much nicer feel to them than the 1144s under gentle braking, and they're just as good under hard use. Greenstuff is OK but completely dead on cold mornings and very very hard on the discs under hard braking when hot. None of them are particularly bad options but given the choice I'd take the DS2000 for gentle road use or DS 2500 for track use.
