car is fab, but a few quickies

the wire leading to the central knob for the doors seems to be buggered. it feels "graunchy" as if the wire isnt right underneath and, whilst it worked ok yesterday, it seems to have completey gone today and both way open the passenger door and cannot open the drivers one.

has the wire snapped/become unattached at the knob end? anyone have any experience of how that all works??

secondly the locking seems to have a mind of its own. the passenger side doesnt seem to work with the central locking? did all chims come wiht central locking or is it somply the case it may not be fitted? mine works with the key and not with a push button. i have made a right tit of myself so far trying to unlock the car as i cant work out the right "sequence" of the lock to unlock it swiftly. have tried turning anti clockwise and clockwise and doing it with one leg in the air etc but still cant work it out. even tried it to the wording of the manual with no joy...

any tips gratefully received, especially on the door knob issue as i currently have to open them from the outside and dont fancy that when the rain comes...

Hi Phil sorry to here about your problem you can manually pull the cable to check the mechanism there is a small panel just behind the door which is,,, you guessed it velcroed in place it folds up wards and can sometimes be also held in place by the door seal when you have access you will see the cable pull it to check your cable the knob will turn/door will open you can adjust the cable as it streches with age if you have any further problems we could meet up and have a play (still have the "bible for the Chim) E-mail me if requied Tony

Just read your second bit dur!! try the small interior light button on the door sill as this can some times play up and stops the c-locking from working easiest way is to check interior light from pass side Tony

Phil,

My central locking does not work if I use the key in the lock - I need to lock both sides (late 1993 build car), however does work on the remote and on the button on the internal door knob. I know what you mean about c/wise anti-c/wise, mine seems to have a mind of its own as well.

You around in the evenings at all? i am off on hols saturday and keen to get it sorted before then as when i get back the summer will be over no doubt and the rain will be here. dont fancy having the window down to be able to get out each time with the rain pissing in!

cheers bob and harry - overall really chuffed with the car. dont struggle to see off the boxsters any more

check that the sensors on the doors are fully home as well ( the door on it's own may not be enough - try some masking tape on it ), 'co i have read that these can cause problems. my car is a 95/96 and it squaks at me if i try locking on the fob with a door not closed properly.

Phil, if your door locks are like mine the 'key' to locking it is this........
The key hole should be horizontal, put key in and turn anti-clockwise 90 degrees, then push the plunger down, then still pushed down turn the key 180 degrees clockwise, the indicators will flash and all the doors will be locked
This of course relies on 2 TVR's being built the same good luck with it

if i lock the passenger door with the key i can still open it using the central knob. so if i lock the door it may still open by itself as per this morning? i will have to tie it shut via the wing mirror at this rate!

anyone got any pointers? the car turns many heads and the last thing i want is them seeing a piece of string from the wingmirror to the seat belt!!

Lovely looking car mate, I am very jealous!!! Looks like TVR’s are now well and truly in your blood!

Daft question and excuse me if I am missing something obvious but would it not be easier to take it back and have the necessary work sorted under warranty. After all what’s the point in getting your hands dirty if you don’t have too!?

Schnozz - Yes I remember you drooling over the purple Chimeara at Pistonfest. I was convinced that you would buy it, how did you manage to resist?

However, I much prefer your new cars colour.

Phil

Had the door opening saga on Chim just after I got it, however drivers door with mine and managed to catch it most times. A bit disconcerting going round corners. The cable from the door opening knob to the door was too tight. I slackened it off a few millimeters and it was fine. May not be the same problem but worth a look. See the bible for how to access or give me a mail via my profile.
