ok, had a brief look as to the set up of the wire mechanism behind the doors and now convinced the problem lies at the other end within the central console.

so as not to make a pigs ear of it can someone tell me how i remove the leather etc to get to the inner parts of the door knob? BTW my car is a 93 so the knob is in the same area as the handbrake and gear lever.

still awaiting the bible through the post.

Shnozz - if it's the same as mine (1998), then you have to take the door release knob off (grub screw), slacken off the handbrake cable, undo the two screws at the front of the centre console bit, and the 1 screw under the tray at the back.
I think that's all. Of course, if you slacken off the handbrake cable, don't do it on a slope

Think it might be a little different on a 93 car as the door release is in the same area as the gear stick and handbrake, and not in it's own little cubby hole It's still probably held on with a couple of grub screws though

Where are the grub screws as I would like to be able to remove mine but haven't found them yet.
