Hi
I have a K&N air filter, for ins purposes is this a mod? Surely it's just a replacement which helps the car breathe better....little or no performance gain.

Thoughts?

Cheers
Andy

Ok I called them and they want to know what the performance increase is! I said it just improves air-flow and doesn't need replacing like the original. Yes, sir but what is the performance increase?

I reckon negligible.

1. there is no performance increase.
2. there is no way any insurance company would ever know
3. stop worrying about it

Cheers gentlemen.

It didn't feel any different once fitted, but I put a new coil on lat night and it feels so much smoother and more willing through the rev range. Didn't have any real issues before but the old one looked like it had been to the moon and back, so thought a new one wouldn't hurt. Quite a difference!

Cheers

Your filter was probably dirty. This will definately impact air flow

The existing question still holds from the insurance company because they are now aware and think of this as a mod. I would call them back and say it has no performance gain, but it is higher quality equivalent part which will require changing less often. The original filter is a performance filter! Standard road cars have very restrictive filters and a K&N will make a difference. That is why the insurance want more info.
