The other day whilst returning from a very pleasant visit to the Cumbria classic car gathering I realised a whine semed to have developed from around the centre of the car (wife in car confirmed the noise was between us). It only appeared when the throttle was feathered ie, neither powering the car nor letting it slow under engine breaking, & it was only apparent at around 70+. Any ideas anyone?? I suspect a UJ at the for'd end of the propshaft but don't really know. The only work done I've done recently was steel rockers / shaft assemblies change due to a loose insert in one of the rockers. That made the engine sound a whole lot better and even the exhaust sounded throatier but not sure that isn't wishful thinking... Could the whine though be a developed airleak in the plenum area? It was the first long warm run the car had had.

Be grateful for any advice all.

Thanks, Mike,

By the sounds of things you know more than me, but if you have the older diff then they are a little grumbly at best and over time they do get a little worse... nothing to worry about if this is the case and a re-condition job isnt a lot of money. But by the sounds of things you have a good idea of what is causing the noise - you might well be right on the UJ's etc....
