Hi all,
I've started to have some idle speed issues with my Chim, first thing when it is started up and strangely seems to also happen any time the fuel cap is removed.

Gave the stepper motor a good clean so i don't think it's that. When i first start the car up it'll rev up to ~2000rpm and sit there. When i get it out of the garage and drive off it usually bounces the rpm between ~1000-1500 for maybe 20-30 seconds at idle before it settles back to normal levels and will be fine from then on. If I leave it idling when it starts bouncing it normally finds the right level and all is good, so stopping at traffic lights for example would give it enough time to return to normal.

The weird thing is it also seems to do it when fully warmed up if i stop for fuel or take the fuel cap off. For the next maybe 30-60secs after starting back up it will return to idling at ~2000rpm and bouncing the rpm briefly at idle the first time i come to a stop, before selling back to normal again.

Anyone experienced this before/got any ideas where i should start looking to track down the problem?

Cheers

Al

If the fuel tank is getting pressurised the fuel rail will be at the wrong pressure leading to mis-fuelling. This could then lead to an unstable idle. Why the problem gets *worse* when you relieve the pressure remains a mystery, but perhaps you actually have two faults. Either way I suggest you get the fuel pressure checked.
