chim everyday use all year round??
Discussion
hi all, this is my first post on here, although i have been reading it for a few weeks now and am amazed at the info i have found out. i am looking at buying a a chim, i have about £15-16k to spend on one and as it will be my main car just wondered how many of you run your car all year round and what problems you have encountered in the winter, is it a viable proposition to run one everyday all year round or not?
thanks

welcome. You don't want a Chim, you want a Griff...
Sorry! Far to early in the thread to start that one
Plenty of people run TVRs as their main or only car. My Griff has only done 44,000 miles in the last 30 months from the heatwave of ten days ago to the snow of midwinter - so I can't comment! They are better for being regularly used and you keep a
all the time too!We run our Chimaera all year round.
If well maintained its a reliable car...the maintenance WILL cost you more than you think - but is reasonable for a car of its performance.
Its fantastic in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
In the depths of winter the light weight, rear wheel drive, massive torque, more bhp than grip all combine to make it a handful...doable..but you'll need to learn real restraint with the right foot.
It is also useless once its icy. I had to abandon the bugger at the bottom of our hill last year. Finally got it up by having two mates push it whilst I feathered the throttle...
Don't be put off - its absolutely brilliant - but come winter it can be a pain in the a**e some days.

Other than the dash board cracking to peices in the recent heat wave ...
Soon sort that - see this thread
I``ve only had mine a fortnight and i fully intend using it all year round, except when there`s a chance of ice on the black stuff.(come on global warming!)
I bought her to be my main car and the wife can use the voyager(bus)to her hearts content. Now i`m used to the chim, i really don`t want to drive any other motor (aston martin excluded).I bought a little hood cover for her as the garage has been converted into a room. She looks quite sweet and snug at night.May have to invest in a full cover when winter comes.Or will i?

yep1
18months in my chim. don't like to think about the servicing costs - hideous. dunno, maybe i have been unlucky, but i've covered about 20k.
would recommend a garage at night, and a hood/windscreen cover for when you are at work, simply because it's much nicer getting into a dry car, but when you are actually driving it the wind takes away water etc.
use rain-x on the windscreen, as the wipers are cr@p otherwise, and get some high output headlight bulbs for the winter.
also recommend that you think about the various cooling fan mods available if you sit in traffic for any length of time. i've just put an extra relay in mine to run one fan ( switched off the original supply and fused, using 35A cable, and taking the power off the starter motor ), and the second fan now goes like the clappers! sems to have improved things anyhow, as i was getting through quite a few of the original ( slow blow, available from dealer/specialist only ) fuses, and these are about £2 a pop ( pun intended )
otherwise these cars are ideal for commuting. idiot on your tail? burn off, pull over, let him through. idiot in front? wait for your opportunity, and boot it past.
and of course, everyone likes tvrs
