Hi.

I have a Chimaera 4.0 1996, and the central locking has stopped locking! The remote doesn't lock the doors, and neither does the button on top of the door release knob. The immobiliser still works, and the remotes still disable it, so it's not a full alarm system problem, or so I believe.

I've tested for voltage at the door lock solenoids, and there's nothing there. I've checked all fuses I can see may be related, and they're all fine.

Does this point to the central locking relay under the dashboard? And if so, where can I get a new one for a resonable price, so if I go the whole hog and lift the dashboard I can replace it all in one go?

I guess Carl the Meta Man is the best place to go, but first I thought I'd see if anyone else had experience of this on here? I was wondering if maybe there was another in-line fuse or something that I may have missed....

Thanks,
James.

Hi there

Don't know if this will be of any help, but here goes.

Mine has been changed out for a Cobra alarm and I had the same problem. I found the pads that operate the door switches were missing, and without both switches being "made" i.e. doors closed, then the solenoids would not operate.
Had to make "custom" pads for the switches then all was ok.

As a rider to that, mine has never worked from the centre console. Don't know if that is a consequence of the alarm changeout or not, although not too fussed about it TBH

Thanks - it's still the orignal alarm, and the button in the centre used to work, but I'll take a look at the door pads this evening...

I seemed to remember that if I pressed the button in the middle with the door open, it would still "click" the lock solenoid, but I may be wrong...

My '99 Chim behaves like this... pressing the centre button with doors open gives a rather satisfying clunk-clunk as the lock solenoids lock and unlock the doors.

Yes, i had same problem
Central locking relay was faulty, sometimes i could hear a noise from the door solenoids trying to operate but wouldn't open the doors
