Stepper motor - how tight is gently tight?
Discussion
yep its noob question time....
When i removed the stepper motor for cleaning, it was a little more than hand tight. I have just cleaned the stepper motor and replaced it tightening it to about the same degree. I now notice that the revs have increased from a steady 1000 to a steady 1200.
So before i remove it again and make sure there is no loose debris in there (this time I will also fit some ptfe tape onto the thread) I wondered how tight other folk do it up as it appears a slight air leak might affect tick over.
Obviously i know i have to be carefull of cracking the casing... so i imagine a 'tweak' with a spanner will suffice. IS that about right
Thank you ppl

Cant imagine why it would have stripped the threads - the tape is incredibly thin. Gas fitters wind a load of it around threads to get a good seal. But no matter I always listen to advice.
I have now cleaned the fibre washer, wrapped a single layer of PTFE on the thread and given the motor a "tweak" with a spanner and the revs have dropped back to the original 1000 so I am happy.
Thanks to all
