temperature gauge sender broken
Discussion
Hi,
i have a problem: My temperature gauge wasn't working correct (stuck at 50). So i decided to check the sender and i broke it... :-(
My questions:
Where can i get a new one? At clever-trevor.net, only the sender for ETB-gauges is available...
Can I use this one, for the Caerbont gauges ?
I heart about the possibility, to use the rover sender with a 120 - 200 ohm resistor.... (Has anyone expirience with this?)
I hope anyone can help me...
thanx, michael
p.s.: please apologise my bad english (i am a german)

Hi Michael
Depending on what type your gauges are. You can buy a sender from Caerbont gauges or ETB Instruments, this will ensure it is the correct type. I have some figures for Caerbont which you can check the sender against.
I tried the other method of using the R-R sender with a resistor with no success. I have to assume that the sender is u/s also.(The gauge is OK)
The sender is quite difficult to get at and please be careful you don't break the brass adaptor it is contained in as you CANNOT get them anywhere. I am in the process of getting an adaptor made on a lathe after breaking it.
Have order a cheap R-R one and will play around with that when I get it using the resistor method.
Details for the original (Caerbont)are as follows:
The temp sender part number is TT4803-01.(Caerbont Gauges )
1130 ohms at 40 deg C,
332 ohms at 70 deg C,
119 ohms at 100 deg C,
The above resistances have a tolerance of about +/-10%.

Hi,
thanx for the helpful replies. I connected the Rover Sender with a 200 ohm resistor and it finaly works.
Anyway, i will try to buy a new caerbont sender, because i don't trust my botch....
cheers
Michael
@PHIL : good luck for your adaptor fixing... !
