Hi all,
New to this forum but a long time owner of a Chim, since 1995...

I need to replace the Avo shocks on the rear...last time when i replaced the OEM ones i bought the rear shocks and springs and gave it to the dealers and they fitted them .... my question is.....with the car jacked up and the springs let off on the adjuster nut....is there a ton of tension still in the springs....i.e. can i undo the nuts without fear of losing a limb

The reason being, i cant find spring compressors that fit between ths coils as they are so tight together...

Any help will be apprciated...

Unless they're almost loose when you take them off how are you planning to fit the new one's without using a compressor?

You don't need a compressor if you're replacing the whole spring/damper assembly as the spring is held in place by the bump stop. There is still tension in the spring, but it's contained as you remove the unit from the car.

HRG, yes that should be the case as long as the shock is at its full extension when the car is jacked up, but then i suppose even if it isnt it will be a limited amount of 'release' anyway....
I'll let you know

Thanks

You'll know if they are under tension as soon as you try to move the mounting bolts yes

Correct, no serious tension.
I generally undo the bottom bolt first with my sissor jack under the disc just about tensioning the wishbone, so that the bolt just comes out easily without knackering it.
