As per the title really chaps...can't seem to get the button back on - it seems to have a thread so I push it in and turn but it never stays for more than a minute.

Any suggestions chaps?

FYI, neither you handbrake handle or indicator stalks are standard. Standard being rather plain plastic Vauxhall items.

But your stalks are much sought after items, no longer made irrc

The hand brake button normally comes with a hole in the end without any thread.
The button is screwed on which makes the thread inside the button, so all you need to do is pour a small amount of araldite or similar into the hole, refit and leave to set.

The handbrake looks like a Leven technology.
give them a call and they're likely to just send you a new button.
They're nice like that.

I think both the handbrake and stalks are Zertec actually - no longer in business. As previous poster said - highly sought after.

I wouldn't glue it permanently in place in case it ever needs to come off. The Leven one maybe an acceptable substitute.
If not, then filled the back of the button with something that sets like hard rubber. Then let the thread on the lever cut into it. Alternatively, fill it with something that sets and tap it. Or you could glue a suitable nut in.
