Temporary Bodywork Repair
Discussion
Damned kerbs!
I just managed to scrape the underside of the nose on a lowered kerb (WTF?) with all the usual nasty scratches. I'm not really keen on respraying just yet (especially as it's all out of sight).
Do I need to put anything on to protect the exposed fibre? I might touch it up anyway, but I don't want the body to decay before I get round to the respray.
Glass Fibre is pretty inert, but I think if it's gone right through moisture can get into the paint which can spread.
Certainly I've left a stone chip on the Elise for a couple of years and it's slowly started to creap and get bigger, but the respray is due soon so I'm not that worried (given the 1000+ other stone chips around it!)
Probably vbst to paint over it with a touch up stick - that way at least no moisture can get into it.
Hope that helps.

It depends whether or not you have broken the fibres. If you have only exposed the gel or lightly scratched it without damaging the fibres then you are OK. If you have exposed the fibres then urgent action is needed. The fibres are very thin straws and when wet the capilliary action means that it is impossible to dry out the inside of the 'straw' and the affected area must be cut out. Paint, cover with tape or repair damaged areas immediately. Failure to do this is what causes blistering for years to come.
