thinking of changing my cam with a view to a rr session after to make the most of it, thing is ive spoken to topcats and austec and they almost said not to waste my money as gains are minimal(its a 400) so wondering who else to try that would be up for it as surely a fresh cam and poss chip would make some reasonable gains? thanks in advance

Is the car still running on the original cam, if so what milage has it done. Have you tried speaking to V8Developments they have quite a few cams to choose from. Also worth looking at the induction side if it all std.

I think they offer a collection service now and will take on a trailer to Norfolk... or is that another garage?

If you are replacing the original cam on a like for like basis you may notice a slight differance if the old cam was worn out. However if you are going to fit a higher lift cam you will not maximize the benefit unless you deal with the induction & exhaust items first.

The whole point of a higher lift cam is to allow a longer valve opening duration to allow you to add more air/fuel but if your air intake or exhaust is restrictive the engine cannot work efficiently. Hence why you will not see the proper benefit in torque/horsepower gain.

Fair enough, if you wish to spend a four figure sum on renewing the cam & remapping it all we, & I think Topcats would agree, are trying to point out is that your proposed route is not the most efficient route to obtaining the results you are looking for.

Perhaps it seems strange that two Garages are not just taking your money but trying to guide you towards a proven course of action that works on the RV8.

hi, dont get me wrong was not knocking austec or topcats, ive used topcats before and was very pleased but im thinking there must be some good gains to be had with say a couple of grand to spend, if not then yes why waste all that money maybe plump for a 500 instead? just looking for some advice really.
