I'm admittedly terrible at valuing things in markets I don't understand, 2nd hand sports cars being one such market.

I don't think the chap selling this Chim is a poster on here.....and I'm just trying to get an idea of what a car like this

http://www.track-days.co.uk/sales/510521.htm

Should actually fetch ( so I can pitch a sensible offer ). Given current fuel prices, looming recession, soaring insurance etc etc.

Looks/sounds like a decent and looked after car, personally and with a good chassis mind and no obvious defects I would offer £1k less and prepare to meet a bit above. Off topic, I would be interested to know what the black box is adjacent to the wiper motor - I aint got one......

Buy Mine! Haha

But really though, i'd say somewhere in the region of £10k would be a reasonable price for that car, seems well specced and well looked after.

Thanks

Matt

You can always buy a cheap one and then spend £'000s on it bringing it up to scratch. From the pics it looks to me like its worth £10k of anyones money but I would get checked out by mechanic first.

That is the plenum expansion tank. It allows the volume of air to expand and contract, keeping air pressure constant thereby ensuring that any pulses do not get transmitted down the trumpets and into the cylinders, which would of course slow down the pistons.

It's worth about 50 bhp and is a worthwhile upgrade if you can get the parts. Most Chimaeras have them. driving

On the other hand, it could be power steering pump fluid reservior. If you have arms like Bluto, then that probably explains why your car doesn't have one. laugh

Sorry, in a funny mood tonight...........getmecoat

I thought that the arse had fallen out of the market for these?

TBH, I'd have thought that anywhere near to £10K would be for the absolute, low mileage, mint 500's?

Edited to add; A quick look through the classifeds leaves me amazed. Either these are worth a lot more than I thought, or there are a lot of very optermistic sellers out there.

The ass has fallen my freind, theres 128 for sale on hear alone and yes there are some very optermistic or should i say unfurtunate people out there trying to sell, mines been in there for 48 days and not a sniff so i'm gonna keep the old gal and give it a little change, incidently mines a 5ltr 99 in exeptional condition and is worth about 7k on a part ex and even then the trade think there doing me a favour lol.

128 Chimaeras for sale on pistonheads is pretty much standard - every year it progressively increases over spring/summer to about 140 at any one time (from memory), and in the winter it drops down towards 100.

Anything over about 55-60k miles seems to take a real hit on price (and interest). No good reason for it though, as mileage doesnt seem to be much of a problem if the car's looked after.

That's the PAS fluid reservoir.
I've had mine on the market for a while now and had some interest but seems to be mainly tyre kickers and time wasters unfortunately. I would say £10K is a good price for that car, looks like a nice one. I would probably go for this one though, looks like all the major mechanical work has been done, sports exhaust and estorils with new tyres. biggrin: http://pistonheads.com/sales/549581.htm

I'd go with the suggestion above of offering £1k less, and meeting somewhere between

I don't think the bottom has dropped out of the market, TVR's are a niche market and the chimaera is an entry level model and there are (relatively) plenty to choose from - good condition, well maintained examples with good spec and in good colour combinations do hold their value - look at what the reputable dealers are asking and people are buying them.

Both of those cars look good value for what you are getting but definately worth checking them out by a specialist. A cheap car now might not be a cheap car in 12 months!

I am interested to see what mine is put for sale at.

I never cease to be amazed at how anyone can actively push the market lower when they own the very thing that is being devalued! Put simply, if enough people offer silly money as a result of seeing such 'advice' then the market simply establishes at a new (lower) level. That's how a market works. moan
