Hi Guys,

Can anybody tell me the easiest way to remove the 3 black dash buttons on my early Chim? I have a set of the aluminium ones I would like to put on, but I am having trouble getting the old ones off.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

if the alloy ones you are trying to fit are from leven technology then you dont need to remove the black ones all you have to do is glue them over the top of the original black ones....bit of a tight fit i know.

The alloy dash buttons are from Leven Tech however they are not big enough to fit over the existing black ones. The instructions from Leven Tech state that the older buttons need to be removed by prising then off with a sharp instrument which I believe is fraught with danger give the soft veneer of the dash facia.

So guys, how do you get these little buggers off without damaging the facia?

there are two ways of going about this...first and the most difficult and time consuming is dash removal which i have done once..3 bolts two passenger side and one drivers side but i would tend to tape the veneer up around the 3 buttons with a thick gaffer tape and then try to lever the buttons out.
mine is a 94 l reg chimaera wth the 3 black buttons and i bought the alloy covers from leven and i managed to squeeze them over the top of the originals with great patience.
good luck.

I've replaced mine with the Leven caps. It's a very easy job to remove the old ones. You need to use a razor blade or a very sharp knife. Basically dig it into the exposed side of the switch and slowly start pulling it outwards at different points. Then they will just pop out smile

Many thanks to all concerned,

I used a Stanley Knife (similar to a thick razor blade with a handle on it) and it took all of 5 minutes to complete the job.

The dash buttons look great. I am a happy mansmile
