Afternoon all, when giving 'it some welly', my car has developed a vibration through the gearstick which gets worse as i get quicker to the point where it is uncomfortable to drive. I rebuilt the engine last year but i cannot remember if the problem was there before or not, Any ideas please?

Good point, one of my engine mounts had sagged so the exhaust manifold was touching the chassis when hitting bumps(they run close anyway)noticed this when i test drove the car before purchase hehe my new ones are going the same way already eek after 2.5 years and bugger all mileage rolleyes

I took a look at my mounts today and i noticed a large split on the rubber on the drivers side.
How do you go about replacing them.
Do you take them out from underneath as the manifolds are in the way and i assume you somehow support the engine replacing one at a time.
Also rpi do heat retardant brackets are they worth the extra cost.

Try SC Power I fitted the brackets they reduce movement on the mount, also should the mount fail the bracket will hold the enigine. They do the engine mounts as well.

They can be removed from under car, they can be done just by the mount 4 bolts but some prefer to also unbolt the engine bracket held by 3 bolts. You can lift the engine gently with a large block of wood on the sump just be abit cearful.

P.S The vibrations seem to come on at about 3500 revs when stationary (no gearbox engaged)and seem to smooth out after a little while, is this any help?

I noticed that my exhaust was banging on the chassis so took my manifolds off and found my engine mount has dropped about an inch sent off to rimmer for a set another w/e ruined looks like its Le Mans on the Telly

At least its fairly straight forward(i cheated and done mine on the ramp in 45 mins hehe) unlike some jobs on these buggers laugh

Did mine this morning took 3 hours not 45 minslaugh
The only mistake i made as i did drivers side first and fitted the mount and fully tightened it up.
Opposite side which is a bh would'nt come out it then dawned on me that the engine woud'nt swing enough because of the other mount.frown
Loosened that then the mount came out only needed 2mm.
Now i can put my finger between the chassis and precat part of exhaust where i could'nt before.
Also drivers side had a spacer and not on the other is that normal?
You can see the split both were the same.
Car used to shake midley at tickover now it's solid.

For anybody planning to do the mounts a 17mm ratchet spanner is a good investment. Also a tip is to support the engine from the opposite side with a trolley jack, as it goes up it pulls the engine away from the mount.

Bit late now as i just found out the shorter the handel the better.
Also a lump of 3x2 timber for the trolley jack to support the sump.
