Well just found a problem that would have left me high and dry had I not caught this. The expansion tanks keeps going empty and the bottom on the tank is all holed ( didnt think ally would rot like that ), in addition to this the hose from the swirl pot to the tank is blocked so bad I have had to replace the hose. Anyone else had a expansion tank go like this ???

Anyone know what the thread size is for the cap ?? anyone know where a new replacement can be found, Tried most of the suppliers and none in stock

Hi there

I was busy changing out my hoses for silicon blue ones wheen I removed the expansion tank for better access to the bottom hose. found the bottom entr to the pot completely blocked with a chalk like substance, therefore no water could get in or out.Don't know if this is relevant to your problem. I managed to clear it with a screwdriver, so lucky that's all it was.

That will be roadsalt attack from the outside and knackered coolant attacking the inside frown maybe worth seeing if you can get your one repaired by an engineering shop if your not able to source a s/hand replacement biggrin

Get one made, its only the threaded portion thats gonna be tricky but thats no problem as the old one can be cut off and fitted to the new one,any good metal/mechanical engineers can knock this thing up,its getting the alloy bits TIG welding thats the tricky bit and those mentioned carry this welding equipment,it really should be no problem smile

Tom Hendry in Benedict Square at Werrington should be able to weld it up for you. Look poor and his prices are good, look wealthy and he might charge you a bit more.

Absolutely excellent welder. Think he's probably in his seventies by now, does it because he enjoys it.

Ill take it to him tomorrow, the one on Ebay is too small it would seem that the 5 litre one is bigger. I did manage to find one in stock from Clevor Trevor as shown in this thread. I am I the only one would have this problem with the tank rotting ?
