Oil Pressure Sender
Discussion
replaced mine after my guage reading went bezerk on the way back from le mans last year - got it from racetech. Just ordered the one that 'looked' most like mine...done really know what the differences are? Works OK. There are a few options and from memory were more expensive than I was expecting - £50 ish when i would have thought more like £20....
Why do you think you might have to replace it? Is it playing up intermittently?
If it is, get to it quickly and you could save yourself the trouble and cost.
On some of the senders (there are 2 types by all accounts) the pin on the top of the sender, that the wire plugs on to, is glued in place. Inside the sender the wire is soldered to the bottom of this pin.
If the glue gets brittle and lets go, the flexing of the wire attached to it will eventually break the solder inside and you'll have to replace the sender because you can't get to the wire to resolder (I tried)
If thats what you find when you look at it, reglue the pin sharpish and you'll be OK.

Guage reading went from the normal 50ish to less than zero. I had drived possibly for some time as I hadnt noticed the gauge. Bit scary but the gauge didnt just read zero but returned to rest as if there was no power to it
Oil light remained off and engine performing as usual. It could be the gauge, sender or wiring . I am hoping it is the wiring or connection but the sender is around £45 . I too was expecting around £20 . Can you get one from a Range Rover spares shop or is it special TVR
Is it it a oil drain or can you change it without loosing too much oil
Thanks
Trevor

I changed the switch on my 92 Griff without losing any oil, working from under the wheel arch.
Is the thread on these tapered? I can't remember, may be confusing it with something else and don't have access to my photos here at work.
It's worth checking that anyway though - to make sure you don't overtighten it and crack the housing.

Just changed the sender unit on my 94 4.0. It is a TVR specific part, £50 ish. Can be done without draining the oil. Not too much mess if you are quick. When you re-fit the unit don't twist the case by hand to tighten it, use the correct spanner. You can use a multimeter to check the Ohms across the connector and the case. My new one was 35 Ohms with engine not running. Guage still reads 15psi below actual (check with pressure guage before installing).
