I've just bought an MC1 cam from V8 Developments and my first impression is that the surface finish of the cam lobes is far rougher than I had expected, but then I'm not an expert on cams.

Having spoken to Rob at V8Dev he was a little vague over what sort of surface finish was acceptable. I accept that the cam is probably ground and then case hardened which is likely to affect surface finish, but there is a definite 'visible to the eye' grain structure.

I don't want to spend a lot of time and cost in fitting this for it to need changing again in a few weeks/months does anyone have a more experienced view on this.

You need to host your picture on the internet! Try using photobucket.

V8Developments are pretty much one of the leading authorities on V8 stuff. If Rob is vague then that is a surprise.

They do have a rough surface when new, as part of the hardening process. It also has the benifit of helping to hold the oil on the cam lobe during the critical bed in period. It only becomes a mirror finish once its bedded in, so no worries.

Rob doesn't grind cams, it's done by the manufacturer. They would grind to industry specs so I wouldn't worry at all. If your cam looks like others that have been ground it'll be just dandysmile
