Square resistors off coil
Discussion
Had a sudden engine failure the other day but it was a beautiful day in Derbyshire waiting for the AA so no great hardship. The AA man was great and identified the problem as one of the two square resistors off the -tive side of the coil breaking down after 13 years of very high temperatures! His solution (which continues to work) was to join both wires through the remaining resistor.
I understand from a posting last year by "Chassis 33" that one wire activates the rev counter and the other goes to the ECU to tell it the engine is running. Neither of them seems to appear in the wiring diagram in The Steve Heath Bible. The question is will the AA solution work long term and can replacement resistors be bought?

I had a problem with starting from hot(no pulsing of the injectors)that came out of the blue a couple of years ago, turned out to be one of the same resistors as you have had i just cleaned up the connections and have had no trouble since, you may find the faulty one you have needs nothing more that a clean up of its terminals,if not try a Landrover/Rangerover breaker but personally i would see if they are still available new,if the ECU gets no pulse from said wire then it presumes the motor is not running
