land rover web site
Discussion
just been on a land rover web site ,why is everything so much cheaper for the same part .are we being ripped off?. stepper motor, luminition 8mm laeads ,clutches all so much cheaper.wish i had known the luminition leads look a bargain. http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/parts-veh-de...
I've bought stuff from famous four and it was fine. The difference is you have to tell them exactly what you want - or give a LR/RR patr number and take responsibility if they supply correctly but it turns out to be the wrong part. ie you can't phone up and ask for a widget for a Chimaera.
Rimmer Brothers are another source of cheaper parts.

Yes! I've used some of the Land Rover spares suppliers that a Google search throws up (including Famous Four). No problems to date but, as mentioned above, you do need to know the correct part number. This shouldn't be a problem as there's plenty of info out there (Chimaera Pages, etc). I'm also fortunate enough to have a Lucas Service branch nearby, and their prices are pretty competitive too (and you're getting OEM parts). £26 sounds about right for an ignition module; I think I paid a similar price from Lucas. I also got a Stepper Motor recently for £55+VAT (not from eBay!).
My car has recently had a new cam and hydralic lifters.
I was charged c.£151 just for supply of the lifters.
Then had a look at TVR Power who supply aq set for £80. - So was already slightly miffed
On this website it's £31.20 for a set!!!!!!!

Are we being ripped off? - Or is there any difference between the 3.9l Land Rover part and one for a 4.5l Chimaera?

You may find that 1st price are for genuine Landrover lifters,i think there has been problems with certain pattern ones,at least one RV8 specialist only supply genuine lifters now for this reason, its a damn expensive way to find out you have the poor quality ones after they have been fitted and they will take your new cam with them I was charged c.£151 just for supply of the lifters.

(just a small heads up) Agree with comments re: pattern parts.
Got ignition amp. from suppliers of LR/RR parts (can't recall name) and it lasted about 3 months on my V8S.
Typical - outside pub and not a kick from engine. Checked for spark at one of HT leads - nothing. Luckily I had a spare in boot, fitted same and we were away!
I mean to try and get an original Lucas spare for the Chimaera.
