Track day noise limit
Discussion
I would be suprised if a standard exhaust got anywhere near a trackday limit.
My 450, also with standard exhaust was measured at 87db at the South Lakes megarun and most trackdays have a limit of 95 to 105db.
Im at Oulton park tomorrow with a limit of 105.
Believe me 105db is VERY loud!
Even a decat and sleeved Chim shouldnt be louder than this.

Mine is a standard 400, noise level tested last week at Keevil at 96db at 4500 rpm.
I always knew mine was "quiet" compared to others and the noise level test confirmed this.
Interesting comparing notes with other people, it was fairly obvious those that were going to
come in louder.

This is interesting, on a previous thread we had standard cars making 95/96db , and I believe some tracks are now 95db limit making a standard car close to it (I stand to be corrected I'm not a track day man this is just from memory).
I thought general opinion was that there is no way a TVR with sleeved pipes is going to be allowed on any track in the UK. My 450 with cats in place but sleeved pipes makes a measured 121db @5800RPM . Ok it would be less at the noise limit rpm (4000 is it ?) but even so its not going to come anywhere close to 105 or 95. Remove the cats and you get around 125db at those kind of revs. Even a track day bolt on silencer isnt going to bring a sleeved car within the limit
If the exhaust is standard it should be fine even at the lower limits but as ever if in doubt get it checked before you go.
I also read somewhere that some tracks have sound meteres around the track so you may get away with the low rev measurement and get on track but then fail when the volume shoots up at full bore ....

Yes the rpm for 107db was about 4k. The guys at Brands reckoned it was pretty close to being allowed on and a set of silencers would bring it well under the limit (and Brands is fairly strict!). Mine will also do 125 or so db on full chat, but to be honest after listening to some of the cars that are allowed on the track, mine doesn't sound that loud. Some of the race cars are running 6L yank V8's with minimal silencing and somehow are still allowed on, so with a bit of silencing I don't think there's a problem.
Most tracks I've seen run a 105db limit, with flyby mics measuring to a much higher 'full chat' limit. So to be honest I reckon with tail silencers any TVR shouldn't have a problem getting in...
