Just a though but as im going to take the car off the road over winter. It could do with a chassis paint and a bit of tidying up. Has anyone ever take the body of a chimaera and if so how easy is it. any idea on the amount of labour if i get some one else to do it and whats likley to break or any gotchas if i do it myself.

I've done a body removal on a tasmin (twice) but the first time it didnt mater how brutal i was and the second time it was already stripped out as a racer

I'm about to do the same and the owner assures me that he did it himself with the help of a friend and it's fairly easy. The friend is needed to lift the body off. On that basis it sounds like a diy job if you have space and a spare pair of hands.

Don't know about a friend to help you get it off, but those having done S recently report that 4 friends is more likely if not 5.

I assume you'll be leaving the seats, fuel tank, dash, wiring, master cylinders etc in the tub

>> forgot to mention doors, another person if you're leaving them on

Even 5 people may me optimistic

Leave the doors on and keep them shut otherwise the body will flex when lifted and tilted.

I've only seen it done with a four post lift and several bodies.

Graham.
Judging by the amount of responses to this question, few people have attempted the job. Judging by how rusty some of the Chimaeras chassis have been while up on 4 post lifts there are going to be alot more people wanting to do the job. May I suggest you document and photograph your effort for the benefit of the masses - Who knows you could even publish a biblette

Well it looks like im going to go ahead with it over the winter, and i'll make sure i get plenty of photos and maybe some video.

My mate has just got a nice 4 post lift installed so as soon as there is some space the chimaera is going in for a full strip down.

There is currently nothing much wrong with the chassis and if i wasnt planning on keeping the chimaera long term a few bits of paint and some wax oil would probably surfice. but as im crap at getting around to selling cars it seems worth doing a thorough job on the car and geting her back to A1 condition..

I came very close to doing this on mine 2 years ago, but in the end managed without. A PH member called TractorBoy was very helpful as he had just done his.

He actually raised the body then dropped the chassis out rather than lift the body off. Seems sensible to me! He did remove engine and gearbox first. And I wouldn't recommend dropping the chassis from six feet!

Not sure if he still visits these parts, but you could try searching members.
