Having fitted my new rear lights last year I have once again found condensation inside the outer lenses grrr. On investigation it seems that the black silicon I used to glue them in has degraded. I should have done it right in the first place instead of trying to cut corners ! Now IIRC what I need is some kind of sikaflex , is that the right name for it ? Did a search but no results found can anyone recommend the best stuff to buy and where from

Cheers

that looks like the stuff, I just want to make sure I buy the right one as I recall some previous posts about the different types of sikaflex and which was best for rear lights. Shame the search doesnt find any results , I know its been discussed on here before !

ETA: This is one available from a motorsport shop, still sikaflex but different type http://merlinmotorsport.co.uk/product_info.php?pro... . I just want to make sure that this time I get the right stuff and dont end up having to do this all again in a year !

Cheers

There is this stuff which is cheaper which I bought, although I used to reseal round the vertical chassis 'tab' thing in the rear wheel arch rather than the lights but it setup pretty strong.

Soudal Soudaflex 40FC

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

They dont seem to have it listed in their shop at the moment, but maybe worth a call.

Glad its not just me then .. IIRC we did our lights about the same time. Do you know which type of sikaflex you used, was it 221 ? At least I will know which one NOT to buy !

You will find sikaflex at most marina's or chandlers, I have used it many times to seal skin fittings on boats, the only thing is it is not like using silicon, it does not flow or wipe off in the same manner. There might be a more user friendly product that is equally as good for this job. One thing for sure if you use sikaflex it will be permanent.

Ive just replaced the doorguards with leven ones which were fitted with a black mastic shall we say and they were a bd to remove.
Had to remove the stuff with a flat blade screwdriver took a hour both sides.
Same stuff on the front and rear lights which i have replaced.
The rear lights that i have now done twice in 6 months sickaflex came off with a blade dead easy leaving a uncured sticky mess nothing like the original.
So as i say either TVR did'nt use sickaflex or i used the wrong type and there are many types.

I used 291 to seal the rear light covers on my old cerb. Beware that this stuff does indeed stick like st to the proverbial(sp?) blanket.
Cures to a matt finish.
Silicon sealant cannot be reapplied over existing silicon as it will not adhere properly. Sikaflex will. (useful if you find you still have a leak).

a good quality automotive silicone sealer will do a perfect job, silkaflex isn't your only option.

an alternative is to drill a very small hole (1mm) in the cover as close to the bottom as you can... this isn't noticable and it will cure your condensation problem

I Got Mine from Slkaflex 221 Black

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/maurimarzal&ssPageNa...

Just a warning if you havent used this stiff before.
It is very sticky and if not carefull it goes everywhere and it doesnt come off easily.

I needed a couple of goes to get it fully watertight and also use masking tape on the Lens and the surrounding bodywork.

I found it easier to leave it a little while to go off before messing with it as it is less sticky. I was told that Swarfega Wipes are good too clean it off with.

It takes a week to completely get off your hands so thin latex gloves are also wise
