Right chums. Our Chim has a green/grey vinyl interior with green carpeting. After 13 years, the carpets have obviously faded, and so today my wife and I removed the central consol to have a look at the original colour and it is a wonderful emerald green!

Most of the rest of the carpets have curled up at the corners and generally have seen better days, and so we have decided to replace all the carpet ourselves.

We plan to remove a lot of the old carpets from the foam & fibreglass, then flatten it out to use as templates. We will then cut the new sections, glue and replace. We don't really plan to change the colour, just restore it.

Any advice?

That's a bit brave where are you buying the carpet from?
Why don't you buy the set from coverdale.
I considered the diy option but after worrying about removing part of the roof and seatbelt anchors etc i chickened out and have now booked it in with KRJ Retrimmers and they can sort it if they run into problems.

Haven't decided where to get the carpet from, coverdale don't do carpet sets for TVR (according to their website)

I have stripped a few cars down over the years, and the Chim looks pretty easy to be honest.

Did an MGF last year, that was fun!

Well, that's the toughest bit really as we can't hand sew it. I do know someone up the road from me who has all the kit to refurb, so I might employ him to do just that bit.

I will start a page on my web site documenting the progress for others to see & use.

Put a set of Coverdale carpets on mine over Easter and I was impressed I have to say. It cost about 375 with all the glue etc for a wool/latex-backed carpet cut to a rough shape. This is done because all of the cars are slightly different, so you trim the carpet to fit as you go along (be sure to buy plenty of extra stanley blades!). In all I thought it was a pretty easy job to fit them and am most pleased with the result which took about 3 days to complete.

You need to be able to take the seatbelts, seats, centre console, door cards and targa roof off though so if you aren't happy doing this then get someone else to do it! But it gives you a good opportunity to learn a bit more about how the car is put together and put a new rear window in if need be.. (and save a few quid from a trimmer)

Nick, how did you sort your seized seatbelt bolts in the end?

Hi Gary! It was only one of the bolts that seized into the outrigger and I ended up just taking it to the engineering shop that did my coil pack bracket. They drilled it out and re tapped the hole so the new bolts fit in just fine
