All,

Have finally got my 93 Chimaera after quite a lengthy wait.

Love it to pieces, although..............................

Day 1 the speedo stopped working. A little inconvenient to be honest, and wondered if there is a quick fix???

I have stuck other posts on with similar, but had little in the way of replies.

So, any help/guidance/common faults that anyone has had would be greatly appreciated.

There is not a single flicker from the speedo, but if i turn the car over after the immobiliser has kicked in (ie so it turns but doesnt fire) the needle jumos around like mad.
I have also read on another site that someone had a problem with the idling characterists on their chim, also with similar speedo maladies.
Mine too (oh woe is me!) also stalls, even coming down from a (guessed) fairly high speed.

Does anyone know if the 2 are related??? I have heard it may be a sender unit, but hoping its a loose cable/connector loose somewhere as it was working for a period after i picked it up, and like to think that my luck is not as bad as having it fail on the first day!

As i say, i have posted similar on other parts of the site, but would greatly appreciate any advise, I could do without the additional expense at the moment, but realise that tinkering will be an on-going part of the ownership experience.

Thanks in advance.

The speedo sensors do have a habit of failing. Not sure which gear box you have.
If it's the T5 box (reverse below 5th)the sensor will be on the diff housing, either the propshaft side of the half shaft flange.
If you have the Rover box the sensor is on the gear box itself.
The stalling could be related as the ECU takes the signal from the speedo sensor to stop this problem from occurring and for fuel economy (shutting off fuel when closing the throttle while moving)
Hope this helps.
Paul.

Paul,

That helps no end.

It is the earlier box that is fitted.

Still hoping to find a loose connection somewhere.

As you are in MK I would suggest a quick call to Topcats Racing - only about a 30 minute drive from MK and Warren may be able to fix it on the spot if its just a loose connection. Certainly worth him popping it on the lift for a quick look. But call first, he's a busy chappie!
