I have just recently bought a 1999 chimaera 400. Best example could find for the money!am looking to put alloys on it but wanted to know the offset and a place where i could get good wheels for a good price! so if anyone got any suggestions let me know. also was thinking of getting straight through pipes done. does this sound better than the normal rumble of the v8. thanx for any answers guys
Hello mate welcome to the fold.
I am no good with the wheel offsets as I have zero idea with those things.
As for the straight thru pipes; there are loads of people who have had it done and love the noise! Obviously needs the cat replacing for testing but good fun the rest of the time i would imagine!
I'm sure some of the knowledgeable ones will be along shortly.
Have fun and be safe matey!

Do not fit big alloys to the car. TVR designed the Chimaera to run on 16" rims. It's already a harsh enough ride without fitting low profile jobbies. Really - you will regret it and you could adversely affect the handling - which is already lairy enough.I would also get used to the exhaust before deciding if you want a "sports" exhaust. It's already f
king loud. In fact it's so loud it's hard to get on a track day - if you fit a sports system there is absolutely no chance.Don said:

They're silent!Sport exhaust, you wont regret it!
Loud as standard??? Are you mad? When a couple pulled into the Chim Roar the other weekend, I couldn't believe the engine was running as they were that quiet..! Best get a proper exhaust on it, you'll be wanting a full decat ACT manifold system with replacement cherrybomb exhaust - makes it sound like a NASCAR! Awesome

Hi Nick....did you get home OK after Roar? Was it a faulty oil pressure sender? Hi mate!
Yeah got under it at the next station and the pressure switch was all loose and knackered. I've left it at home and taken the daily hack to norfolk but I'll change the oil and switch when I'm next home and do a couple of other jobs I've been meaning to get done... I'm going to have to get some stickers for my car though... Love the look of yours!

Of course its all up to you, but if you've been told to get straight through pipes as they are quieter than cherrybombs then I would do a little homework first. They may be referring to the Offords 'cherrybombs' which turned out to be straight through pipes - proper cherrybombs shouldn't be much louder than standard.
Edit: Decat MOT isn't a problem, you just need a friendly MOT tester
