Parked my car under some trees near my my house and returned to find this!!!

What sort of bird leaves that??? It was like a cow pat. I remember when bid poos used to be small white with maybe a hint of purple dependant on what berries consumed... What is going on?
I have never owned a car that gets shat on so much, I park it in a row of about 10 or so cars and only ever mine gets bombed. curse Do they know I have just applied a ridiculously expensive wax?

On another note it appears my alternator has just about given up the ghost. Anyone know the best place to get a replacement? It looksa straight forward job but is there any TVRisms I should be weary of when swapping it over?
Cheers,
Paulo.

on another point, is it OK to put your tax disc there, I have one like that, it will not stick where it should because of the curve of the screen, is there a legal requirement to be on the nearside or should it just be displayed

You'll normally find an alternator on eBay but I'd shop around at motor factors, they often come up with some great prices. What's wrong with it? You say it's just about given up the ghost: is it still working, or not?

If and when you do get hold of one, disconnect the battery before you fit it.

Licence disc must be displayed at the nearside edge but not necessarily at the bottom corner.

Before you buy a new alternator, check the voltage on the back of the alternator (the big thick wire on the back) with the engine running and it should read 13.8 volts or so.
If it does then measure the voltage at the battery. If this is only 12 volts or less then you may find the 100 amp fuse has failed or a dodgy battery cable.
If both read 12 volts or less then the alternator is faulty.
Cheers.
Paul.

Thanks for the replies all,

I will try out the fuse as I didn't read the voltage from the back of the alternator only from the battery.
I left my lights on and completely flattened the battery. I jumped the car and the voltage from the battery was fine until the fans kicked in and suddenly the voltage just completely dropped. I assumed at the time that it was just all too much for the alternator to cope with and it let go.

One last query if I may..
When removing the battery I discovered the previous person to perform this task neglected to bolt the battery box back in again. This did make it significantly less of a ball ache to remove. Given that I have driven round for 18 months with it in this state in blissfull ignorance anyway, should I bother to bolt it back in?

On a final note the origin of the poo is still a mystery. It wasn't parked under a Monkey puzzle tree so that rules out monkeys.A giant spider seems to be the most likely suspect. I have notified local authorities of a giant arachnid threat and they have immediately begun construction of a giant flipflop with which to squash it. Failing that, Chuck Norris is on emergency standby to come in and roundhouse kick it to death.
